How much is the Erasmus+ grant for a traineeship in Poland?
University students and recent graduates get a monthly grant of €225–550 or €292–606, depending on their home country, plus €150 a month for a traineeship. VET learners get €36–93 a day. Travel is paid by distance on top, for example €309 for 500–1,999 km. Each National Agency and university sets the exact rates within these EU ranges.
University students and recent graduates
The monthly grant depends on the living costs of the home country and of Poland. Poland is in the group with lower living costs, so students from a country in the same group get the medium EU range, and students from a dearer country get the lower range.
On a traineeship, students and recent graduates get €150 a month on top, and students with fewer opportunities another €250 a month; both can apply together. Students at universities in the outermost regions, such as the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores, get €786 a month instead, without these top-ups.
Each National Agency fixes its amounts within the EU ranges, and universities publish what their students receive.
| Home country group | Countries | Monthly grant in Poland |
|---|---|---|
| Group 1: higher living costs | Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden | €225–550 |
| Group 2: medium living costs | Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain | €225–550 |
| Group 3: lower living costs | Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Türkiye | €292–606 |
VET learners and staff
In vocational education and training the grant is a daily rate for each day of the activity. For Poland the EU range is €36–93 a day for learners and €84–148 a day for staff; each National Agency fixes its own rate within it and publishes it.
Accompanying persons, such as teachers travelling with learners under 18, are paid at the staff rate. For each learner on a long placement (ErasmusPro, 90 to 365 days), the sending organisation’s project also gets €150 of reinforced language support.
Travel support
Travel is paid on top of the grant, for learners, students and staff alike. It depends on the air distance from the place of origin to Warsaw, measured with the European Commission’s distance calculator, and covers the return journey. Green travel, by low-emission transport, pays more in the shorter bands and funds up to 6 travel days instead of 2.
Where the band covers less than 70% of the real cost, the sending organisation can ask its National Agency for exceptional costs: 80% of the eligible cost.
| Distance to Warsaw | Standard travel | Green travel |
|---|---|---|
| 10–99 km | €28 | €56 |
| 100–499 km | €211 | €285 |
| 500–1,999 km | €309 | €417 |
| 2,000–2,999 km | €395 | €535 |
| 3,000–3,999 km | €580 | €785 |
| 4,000–7,999 km | €1,188 | €1,188 |
| 8,000 km or more | €1,735 | €1,735 |
What MEYİS pays
The Erasmus+ grant comes from the sending organisation’s project, not from the host. Host organisations may add financial support or a contribution in kind; MEYİS pays no salary and does not provide accommodation, but we advise on districts and options in Warsaw.
What we are asked about this
01 Who pays the Erasmus+ grant for a traineeship in Poland?
The sending organisation, from the project its National Agency funds: the school pays VET learners and staff, the university pays students. The host does not pay it, and MEYİS pays no salary.
02 Is the Erasmus+ grant the same in every country?
No. The EU sets ranges, each National Agency fixes its amounts within them, and universities publish what their students receive, so two students in Poland from different countries can get different amounts.
03 Do trainees get more than exchange students?
Yes. Students and recent graduates on a traineeship get €150 a month on top of the monthly grant, except students from the outermost regions, whose higher €786 grant has no top-ups.
04 Is travel paid for university students too?
Yes. Travel support by distance applies to all higher education mobility, as it does to VET learners and staff: for example €309 for 500–1,999 km, or €417 with green travel.
